More Signs of Spring

I have seen some signs of spring today in my yard! On the way into the house today this is the first day that my crocuses have bloomed.
I took some more views of the strawberries I started making over the weekend.

Strawberry Fun

Today to celebrate National Quilting Day my friend and I got together to make emery filled strawberries. It was super fun!

Here's a little photo essay on the steps:
I had done a little research on the Internet about how to make cute strawberries filled with the metal emery, so we basically followed the steps I found on several different websites. However after making just the first one, we developed some of our own modifications. I hope to make another post soon to tell more about our excellent learning experience.

Bandanna Quilt on Paper

A recent project of mine was an inspiration to my students when we created bandanna designs in 5th grade art class. I pieced this sample during one of my preps. As the kids worked I perfected some of the hand drawn details in the white paint. As an after thought I added a touch of green marker to some of the images after it was framed with the squares and rectangles around the border.

I had several cloth bandannas in some bright colors like yellow, green, purple and orange! Each of the patterns was unique, but they were all somewhat organized with symmetry of the four sides. Most of the cloth squares had one design image in the center that had radial balance too.

I guess my love for quilting and kaleidoscopes has spilled over to the classroom. To read more about our lesson check out my Gallery 2404 blog.
