Paper Molas

We drew the chosen animal silhouette on manilla and stapled it to the colored construction paper and then cut it out.  In doing this, we avoided the pencil lines showing.  We glued the animal to the next color and cut that out in an echo shape that was progressively larger. 

I'm curious if any readers have some other handy tips to share about making cut paper Molas??  Perhaps you'd like to leave your comments below.

Blueberry Clafouti Recipe : Dave Lieberman : Recipes : Food Network

Here's a link to one of my favorite brunch recipes.  I saw it once on a food network show and I've been making it ever since.

The ingredients are simple and it bakes up quite nicely in the oven.  

Now, if I could only grow enough blueberries from my mini bushes around my patio!

This dish reminds me of a  giant blueberry pancake and it would be great served at a weekend brunch or a wedding shower.

Sewing a New Hat from an Old Sweater

I picked up this hat at. The craft show yesterday.  The seller let me in on her pattern and sewing directions and I was able to replicate it using sweater scraps from my old mittens. 

The top is made from a tear drop shape.  The brim can be from a pike shaped rectangle where the concave side matches up with the corvette of the drop shaped top.  The pont is then sewn down near the brom and may be embellished with a button or layered flower.

Somewhere near UW-Stevens Point there is a remote test garden.   We took time to stop and have a walk around.  Since all other times we just have to glance at it from the road while going 65 mph. 

As you can tell from the photos, it's quite lovely.  They had an alley of stargazer lilies companion planted with liatris that what just at its prime.  I took my time on that path.

Next I saw a cute planting that was inspired by a quilt!

Kale and coleus were used to make this annual planting that they had designed in a quilt like pattern.  It may need just a few more weeks to grow in, but I imagine it will be very eye catching with the purples reds and golds for the autumn.

Shown in the next photo is a butterfly garden.

I am standing on the mosaic pathway that is shaped like a butterfly body.  The wings are planted with bee balm, purple coneflower, salvia, and other summer blooming perennials.  It was completed with some wrought iron antennae to add a bit of whimsy..
